April Should See DayZ Standalone Release

Dean Hall commented on Reddit about expected progress, without promising an April release, and expressed the personal frustration that has come out of The War Z’s debacle release.

DayZ’s standalone is still under development, the various pitfalls and delays that it has been unable to avoid combining with the morale damage that The War Z and Hammerpoint Interactive’s abominable behavior did to the development team to cause the game to miss its original deadline of having a release before the end of 2012.

Dean Hall went on Reddit recently to speak out a bit about the game’s progress. He stated clearly that they would be releasing the keys to get into the game’s technical testing slowly, and that the tech test was not going to be pretty nor should it be expected to be particularly fun. It is a test, after all, focused on making sure the game’s physics and interactions work as desired, not a beta release.

He also commented regarding the additional stress that the scandal of The War Z created. While most gamers know the difference between the two games, he noted that many laypeople do not know that difference.

I am angry about The War Z. I’m very angry. I’m quite hurt personally because anyone can see how similar the words are, and while the average gamer knows the difference, individual people don’t. I’ve had family members and close friends mistake the difference and confront me about what they believed was unethical behavior they thought I was making.

Good transparency without definitive promises that can be broken by circumstance, I am hopeful about the DayZ standalone’s final product.
